The starting salary is £38,890 (Level One) rising to £40,876(Level Two) on the first year anniversary, subject to satisfactory completion of a probation period (pro rata for part time workers).

The Council is seeking to recruit up to 3 commercial lawyers to work within its busy Commercial Contracts Team.  The role will include advising on a range of commercial contracts, projects (including transport and energy related projects) and procurement issues all within the context and governance of being a public body.  Experience of construction contracts and subsidy/state aid will be welcomed.  We have a high volume of transactions and many will be high profile that will require an ability to deal with officers at all levels of the Council together with elected Members and Stakeholders.
 
You will be able to demonstrate experience of commercial and contract matters and be able to handle a varied caseload with minimum supervision.
 
The posts are being offered on a fixed term basis for an initial period of 2 years with the potential to be extended subject to funding availability.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive admitted for not less than 3 years, Barristers having completed a pupillage and called to the Bar for not less than 5 years; Considerable experience of undertaking a range of contract and commercial matters; Ability to manage own workload and work under pressure within minimum supervision; Experience of dealing with a wide range of drafting requirements; Ability to prepare comprehensive reports on legal issues; Ability to work as part of a team
