We are delighted to be recruiting for a fantastic opportunity for a Governance Lawyer at a reputable Local Authority based in the Vale of Glamorgan on a permanent basis to specialise in information and general governance and education law.

The Role:

Duties for the Assistant Information Governance Lawyer include:

  • Supporting the Governance Manager on all Corporate Information Governance items ensuring that it provides legal services to the Council's Members, Officers in accordance with Lexcel standards and in a way that reflects the council
  • To provide support in providing legal advice to Council officers and elected members in governance and other corporate or constitutional and administrative matters such as procedure, functions, constitutional interpretation, and decision making to ensure compliance with statutory duties and obligations and to protect the best interests of the Council
  • To support legal officers to deliver advice to the Council's Education colleagues in support of maintained schools in the Local Authority area including in the following areas of practice:
    • Additional Learning Needs, including representation where necessary before the Additional Learning Needs and Education Tribunal Wales
    • School Admission and School Admission Appeals matters
    • School Exclusions
    • School Complaints, Ombudsman complaints
    • School Transport issues
    • General legal enquiries on behalf of the Council's Education officers and members

Who you are:

The successful Assistant Information Governance Lawyer will hold the relevant legal qualifications to undertake this exciting role in these key areas of importance to the Council.

Local authority experience is highly preferable, however we are willing to consider Information Governance Lawyers from various backgrounds with transferable skills. We are a busy legal department which has a progressive outlook with a "can-do" approach. You will report directly to the Information Governance Manager and will be expected to support the Operational Manager Legal Service and the Head of Legal and Democratic Services. This is a great career step. You will continually be stretched with challenging cases/projects which will need your technical abilities and positive approach.
