Job Details
Manager/Team Leader
A Hampshire office of a leading law firm require a Manager/Team Leader, with previous experience of managing a team, to lead 6 paralegals and fee earners.
The Firm
A leading law firm recognised for their excellent employee welfare, agile working and high quality legal services to public and private sector clients.
The Role
The role will be responsible for day-to-day supervision, motivation and development of the eight Transaction Handlers and other fee-earners within the team with an escalation point to the supervising partner when needed. The post-holder will also have overall service delivery responsibility for the team. This will involve managing successful client relationships and creating new workflows and processes in order to improve efficiencies within the team.
Typical duties will include:
Management and supervision of the team including:
Allocating and delegating work fairly amongst the team and monitoring workload levels;
Ensuring team members carry out their work in accordance with the firm's instructions and monitor the quality and accuracy of work by team members and their performance generally;
Ensuring the team works in accordance with the procedures, service standards and requirements of the department and the firm;
Assessing the training needs of the team and delivering training where possible/escalating needs to the Learning and Development team;
Implementing the instructions of the Supervising Partner to improve the efficiency and profitability of the team; and
Immediately attending to and resolving any complaints arising from the work of the team and referring complaints to the Supervising Partner in accordance with the firm's complaints procedure.
Other people management activities such as chairing team meetings, reviewing performance, carrying out probation reviews and appraisals and managing sickness absence all with support from HR and the supervising partner;
Establishing strong relationships with the team's clients and being the escalation point for complex matters;
Delivering training to clients and internally to team members;
Understanding the ethos of the Housing sector and assist in the attainment of key performance indicators and other quality standards required by the Housing clients;
Identifying efficiencies and implementing improved workflows and processes within the team;
Providing management information as required to partners and clients; and
Any other duties as reasonably requested.
Skills set
The Candidate
Candidates are not required to have a legal qualification to carry out this role. More important is to be able to demonstrate strong leadership and motivational skills, to be able to build great relationships with clients, to be commercial in approach and focused on the delivery of the clients' instructions and to demonstrate a passion and commitment to the success of the team.
Other skills required include:
To have experience of managing others in an upbeat, motivational style and to effectively manage change in a fast paced environment;
To have the ability to manage a team working on a high volume case load in the residential market;
The ability to understand, use and contribute to the development of computerised conveyancing case management systems;
Experience in finance preparing and billing
Previous experience of case management systems would also be helpful, although is not essential;
To demonstrate a natural affinity and empathy with clients and referrers and the ability to present well to both internal and external customers;
To be organised in day-to-day activities and long-term projects; and
To demonstrate the ability to work effectively as a leader and team player.
