The University of Roehampton is looking for a Senior University Lawyer to lead our Legal Services provision. Reporting to the University Secretary (Company Secretary), the role holder will oversee the delivery of high quality and efficient legal services at the University, whilst also acting as a strategic advisor to senior managers.
Candidates will have the opportunity to join a busy department working at the heart of a complex organisation with a strong sense of mission and purpose. At Roehampton, we change lives by helping our students to develop the confidence, knowledge and adaptability they need for a successful graduate career and fulfilling life. We are a supportive, close-knit and inclusive community, with a proud history in higher education stretching back more than 175 years. Our values come from this rich history, built on community, engagement and partnership, with a belief that no matter their background, we  can help our students realise their ambitions.

The role would suit a qualified solicitor or barrister with a commercial and contractual background, whether in education or elsewhere, who is also comfortable overseeing a broad range of legal work. This will include procurement, estates, intellectual property, data protection, governance, regulatory and compliance, company law, charity law, disputes and litigation. You will provide legal advice and input within your areas of expertise, whilst also coordinating the provision of external legal advice in relation to the full range of work at the University. You will ideally have at least 3 – 5 years' PQE.

We are interested in applications from all suitably qualified candidates and can offer significant flexibility, particularly in relation to the following:

- Working pattern: The appointment is advertised up to full time (1fte), but we would consider applications from candidates who are looking for a part-time role or job share.
- Flexible location: The role is offered in one of two modes as follows:

  •  Hybrid working: This would involve working a minimum of three days per week at the University’s campus in South-West London, with the option of working up to two days per week remotely. Employees working with a hybrid working pattern will receive the London Weighting Allowance in addition to their base salary, which is currently £3,721 per annum.
  •  Remote working: This would involve working fully remotely. Employees working fully remotely will not be eligible for the London Weighting Allowance regardless of their living location. They can be based anywhere in United Kingdom and would be expected to attend campus two days per quarter by agreement with their line manager.

For an informal discussion about this role, please contact the University Secretary, George Turner at george.turner@roehampton.ac.uk
