Regulatory Legal Adviser
London (Hybrid Flexibility)
Full time
PM2
The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) is the governing and regulatory body for British Horseracing with the responsibility for ensuring the continuing integrity and successful development of the sport. It is the BHA's role to act for and on behalf of the whole sport, ensuring that the highest standards apply on and away from the racecourse.
This is a great opportunity for someone with legal qualifications, who is keen to expand their knowledge in a challenging and varied role. As the Legal Adviser, you will conduct case management for anti-doping, corruption and other non-running and riding prosecutions under the Rules of Racing, including presentation to an independent Disciplinary Panel at Inquiry. You will be responsible for case management, drafting and finalizing witness statements, and assisting the Integrity team with investigations and advising on any formal objections by the Authority to the licensing or registration of individuals considered unsuitable to participate in the sport. You will also need to advise on ad hoc legal regulatory issues and assist with drafting of new rules.
The successful candidate will be confident, enthusiastic, innovative and proactive, with a positive and flexible approach. You will ideally have experience managing a large and complex case load within a legal or regulatory environment, preferably within sport. The ability to multi-task whilst maintaining a good level of attention to detail would be a key skill. In addition experience of dealing with high volumes of varied legal related administration is desirable. Being a fully qualified lawyer holding an appropriate practicing certificate is advantageous but not necessarily mandatory if the required skillset is met.
You should be able to demonstrate a keen interest in sport and sports regulation preferably with a strong interest in horseracing or other equine sports. Ideally you will have strong problem-solving skills, a meticulous approach, and proven ability as an effective communicator, both written and oral.
