Wonderful chance to join one of the largest, non-city based law firms in the West Midlands with a national reputation for its technical expertise. They act for developers, institutions, contractors, charities and sub-contractors at every stage of the construction process; dealing with multi-million pound transactions and disputes both nationally and internationally.


We are looking for a Senior Associate who can demonstrate their technical knowledge to undertake a broad range of construction cases, with an emphasis on disputes, for a truly diverse client base. Efficient management of a busy caseload is a must. The ideal candidate will be able to hit the ground running with a portfolio of disputes. We are ideally looking for candidates at around 8 - 10+ PQE. Prior experience of supervision is highly desirable.

You will have good client and team communication skills, excellent drafting and negotiation skills and a desire to play a key role in the future of the team. Above all, you will be able to deliver succinct, quality and tailored advice to key clients. You will also be able to demonstrate the ability to work both autonomously and as a team player and will have high levels of motivation.

You will be given guidance and support to develop your career within our construction team. 

Job responsibilities

  • Responsible for running own caseload and ensuring deadlines are met. Ensure the retention of good clients through appropriate client management and service delivery.
  • Contribute to the development of the team business plan and take ownership for the delivery of assigned activities.
  • Support key events to secure profitable new clients, cross sell opportunities and increase the Firm’s profile.
  • Prepare and present seminars and/or issue bulletins on topical subjects. Ensure clients receive accurate, up-to-date legal advice that takes account of their circumstances and represents "value for money”.
  • Ensure all new instructions to be appropriately scoped and priced to achieve target gross margin. Ensure timesheets are updated and posted on a daily basis Achieve personal utilisation and realisation targets
  • All invoices to be raised on completion of the matter and where possible interim billing to be applied.
  • Disbursements and other ‘expenses’ to be invoiced as and when incurred. Maintain the integrity of data in key platforms such as Lawsoft, Visualfiles, Worksite and InterAction by ensuring that they are updated in a timely manner.
  • Set clear objectives for direct reports and actively manage to reinforce strong performance. Contribute to motivating colleagues to ensure they are engaged in achieving the Firm’s objectives. Effective use of tools and opportunities (e.g. 1:1s, PDR) to maximise the strengths and skills of direct reports
