Head of Legal (Inhouse)
Salary: 72k -80k + Benefits
Status: Permanent /Full-time strongly preferable (however can potentially be flexible)
Location: Birmingham City Centre /Flexible Location
Transitioning to a low-carbon energy system to meet the 2050 net zero target is one of the most complex and important challenges that we have ever faced, this type of Head of Legal role does not come around too often, in the sense that it will allow you the opportunity to apply your legal expertise to a really worthwhile cause.
The Energy Systems Catapult provides expertise to a broad range of organisations who are faced with challenges associated with decarbonisation and are focus ultimately is to accelerate the transformation of the UK’s energy system and ensure UK businesses and consumers capture the opportunities of clean growth.

We imagine that you may either be working in practice , possibly as a Non equity partner or perhaps even as a senior associate and have made up your mind that you would like to move inhouse, alternatively you may already be operating at a similar level inhouse or feel you are ready for the step up into a Head of role.
However, you will certainly already have a successful track record of delivering high quality and commercially focused work and will be keen to continue to largely focus on that, but in an area that you care and are passionate about.
As a commercially astute, qualified and registered professional, you will be well placed to lead on the negotiating, drafting, and advising on terms and conditions on a wide range (in terms of complexity & value) of collaborative and stand-alone commercial arrangements, including public contracts.
Although the key focus of this opportunity will be commercially related, there will also be ample opportunity and an expectation that you will also be leading on other legal matters, mainly around governance & compliance, HR matters and perhaps even mergers & acquisitions, so this opportunity will certainly provide you with the variety you may be seeking.
It will be great if you already have leadership/line management experience, as this opportunity will head up a small team of two, however this is not a prerequisite if you have the attributes and the ambition to do so.
