Job Details

FAMILY LAW PRACTITIONER

St Helena Island, South Atlantic

The Attorney General's Chambers in St Helena seek to recruit an experienced family law practitioner (barrister or solicitor) to devise and draft bespoke Family Procedure Rules for St Helena, alongside associated training and guidance documentation.

The practitioner will be required to travel to St Helena and engage with relevant stakeholders to develop an understanding of care and family proceedings on the Island.   Such engagement will also allow for familiarity with the Island’s laws, legal practice and culture.

The preference is for the practitioner to be employed on a contact of employment. However, expressions of interest to be engaged as a consultant, on a contract for service, will also be considered.  The preference is for the practitioner to live and work on St Helena for three to five months with the project completed during that timeframe. Remote working for part of the project may be considered, but a significant amount of time will need to be spent on St Helena.

The practitioner will be required to:

  • Devise and draft bespoke Family Procedure Rules for St Helena (with the assistance of a Legislative Drafter in the Attorney General's Chambers),
  • support and assist with formally presenting the Family Procedure Rules for approval before implementation,
  • draft training and guidance documentation as a companion to the Family Procedure Rules and provide training and information sessions for relevant stakeholders.

Salary: £4,000 per month, plus travel and cost of living allowance when on St Helena

How to apply:

Please submit a CV and a detailed letter of application to recruitment@sainthelena.gov.sh
