Job Details

My client within the betting and gaming industry require a Commercial Lawyer to assist them on a long term contract basis likely to be approaching 2 years with possible extension.

The purpose of the role will be to assist the Commercial and Procurement Lawyer with procurement and commercial contracting across the organisation.

Providing legal advice to the Procurement team and/or the relevant business teams on procurement and tender processes and commercial arrangements and negotiations.
Negotiating (together with the Procurement team and/or business area), reviewing and drafting the terms of commercial contracts, including good and services, retail, IT, payment processing and IP.
Assisting with legal updates to the businesses internal contractual governance processes (including procurement policy document/s and related procedures).
Advising on procurement or contractual disputes.
Conducting due diligence on commercial contracts which may be inherited by the business, identifying areas of legal risk and advising the business teams on the same.
Assisting the Procurement team with the contract management process and advising on day to day contract queries.
Identifying the need for external legal advice where specialist support is required and engaging and managing external counsel where necessary.
Assisting with the updating and expansion of a suite of template contracts and associated documents to ensure these meet the businesses needs and are compliant with all applicable law, best practice (including
social value commitments) and the businesses commitments to the Gambling Commission, while also maximising efficiency and consistency across the businesses supplier contracts.
Assisting with the development of internal policies on how to respond to common comments made by counterparties on the businesses standard terms.
Providing training to the business teams on the legal elements of the procurement and contracting process and related policies and procedures.
Ensuring the best possible commercial position is achieved in all commercial contracts, whilst also mitigating legal and business risk.
Ensuring that all commercial contracts are finalised in good time in line with the businesses transition timeline and plan, and any timeline commitments made to the Gambling Commission.
Ensuring that all commercial contract terms comply with the businesses commitments to the Gambling Commission and under all applicable legislation.

Requirements

Qualified solicitor with a current practising certificate, ideally with a minimum of 3 PQE (although other experience levels will be considered on merit).
Excellent experience in a leading law firm, with in-house experience or secondment also preferable.
Experience in the gaming or gambling sectors preferable, although not essential.
Experience in another regulated environment or sector, and/or dealing with public sector stakeholders, would also be useful, although not essential.
Strong commercial contracts experience, ideally including information technology, general commercial (goods and services), retail, payment processing and intellectual property.
Excellent negotiation and drafting skills, with strong attention to detail.

This role is offered on a FTC basis with annual salary circa 75-90K + benefits and up to 20% completion bonus
