Head of Student Investigations

Canterbury Christ Church University’s newly created Directorate of Student Resolution and Student Protection is responsible for delivering high quality efficient handling of Student Complaints, Appeals and Disciplinary cases. It is responsible for embedding Early Resolution, Student Investigations, Safeguarding, Regulatory Compliance and Consumer Protection and providing an exemplary student casework secretariat. The ambition is to deliver outstanding and sector-leading work across these key areas.

The University now seeks to appoint a key leadership role within this new Directorate, reporting to the Director.

The new Head of Student Investigations will provide strategic leadership relating to all forms of investigation involving students. The role requires significant liaison at all levels across the University, partner organisations and law enforcement agencies.

The purpose of this role is to create and lead an efficient, timely and effective investigations service by:

  • Leading, commissioning and supervising all investigators and investigations.
  • Undertaking investigations into complex student matters, including harassment and sexual misconduct cases and group student complaints.
  • Taking responsibility for the University’s training needs regarding investigations.
  • Ensuring an adequate pool of trained investigators at the University is effectively deployed to complete investigations on time.
  • Ensuring robust and usable data for a wide range of analyses.

The successful candidate will share investigative skills and techniques with others and keep up to date with sector guidance and best practice. They will have strongly developed communication skills to influence and engage colleagues across the University and establish an investigative community.

We invite applications from compassionate leaders with expertise in undertaking investigations and a keen appreciation of operating in a legal and regulatory landscape. Experience of and relevant accreditation in, complex case management is essential, as is an excellent working knowledge of the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 and an understanding of, and commitment to, diversity. Working in a similar role in Higher Education or a comparable sector would be ideal.
