The starting salary is £44,624 (Level One) rising to £46,662 (Level Two) on the first-year anniversary, subject to satisfactory completion of a probation period (pro rata for part time workers).

The Council is seeking to recruit an experienced commercial lawyer to work within its Contracts and Commercial Team.  The role will include advising on a range of commercial contracts, building contracts, and procurement issues all within the context and governance of being a public body.  In addition, you may be required to be the legal advisor on projects being undertaken by the Council.  Experience of construction contracts and subsidy/state aid will be welcomed.  Many of the transactions will be high volume and high profile and will require an ability to deal with officers at all levels of the Council together with elected Members and Stakeholders.  
 
You will be experienced across all aspects of commercial and contract matters and be able to handle a complex caseload without supervision.
 
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Solicitor or Chartered Legal Executive admitted for not less than 3 years, Barrister having completed a pupillage and called to the Bar for not less than 5 years
  • Considerable experience of undertaking complex contract and commercial matters
  • Ability to manage own workload and work under pressure with minimum supervision 
  • Experience of dealing with complex drafting
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive reports on legal issues
  • Ability to work as part of a team
