Property Lawyer

Location: Bristol

Grade 7

Salary: £48,985

When it comes to nation-changing purpose, few organisations can match the Government Legal Department. Our work touches almost every aspect of UK life. It has a lasting, positive impact on millions of people. And we’re immensely proud of what we do. With us, you can build a career around life-changing law, working on extraordinary issues of rare depth and complexity. Along with this, you’ll receive excellent training, gain a real work-life balance and be part of a truly team-spirited environment.

The role

You’ll join the Property Law Team in our Commercial and Property Law directorate. We’re also part of MOD Legal Advisers and advise the MOD on everything from real estate projects to property law issues in commercial and wider cross-government initiatives. It’s challenging and highly varied work that makes a real impact on the MOD’s ability to keep the UK secure.

Once you’re part of the team, you’ll provide legal advice to clients on commercial and residential property law. You’ll also carry out transactional property work through auctions, tenders and private treaty, negotiating with clients and drafting key documents. On top of this, there’s the opportunity to formulate responses to parliamentary questions or Freedom of Information Act requests relating to property law.

About you

You’ll be an experienced solicitor or barrister with a sound understanding of property law and legal risk.

We look for excellent communication skills, reliable judgement and a strategic mindset combined with abilities in analysis and research. Being able to welcome views and challenge others is essential, as is a good sense of customer needs and expectations.

You’ll also need a minimum of a 2:1 honours degree. Before your employment can start, you’ll need to complete the Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) as part of the Civil Service background checks.

What we can offer

As a member of the Civil Service, you’ll be able to enjoy flexible working, generous annual leave, a Civil Service pension, a wide range of staff networks and travel and childcare allowances.
