Housing Department Background:
Noted for its “sustained legal conviction combined with outstanding advocacy”, our Housing team, is ranked and recommended by The Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners UK for its services in social housing UK-wide, providing assistance to both landlords and tenants on all housing issues. We handle both publicly funded (legal aid) and privately funded legal services in homelessness, disrepair, eviction, succession for tenants, neighborhood problems, debt issues and possession proceedings. Our solicitors are highly experienced in finding solutions to housing disputes and aim to address the issues quickly and effectively. The department regularly represents clients at all court levels (including the Higher Courts) and is extensively experienced at handling all housing related judicial review claimant matters at the High Court.
What we are looking for
We are seeking to recruit two Social Housing Paralegals with a view to commencing a training contract in our Housing department. The training contract is a fixed term contract for up to 24 months.
The two positions will be funded by the Legal Aid Agency via a trainee grant.
The successful candidate will join as a Social Housing Paralegal, and subject to successful completion of a 3 month probationary period, will commence their training contract. We are looking for eligible candidates that are able to commence the role at the end of November 2023.
The successful candidate will be undertaking work in relation to the Housing Loss Prevention Advice Service (HLPAS) and will deal with clients that call into the service or handle cases taken on under HLPAS.
The role will also involve assisting with casework including dealing with a range of public and private housing cases including Homelessness, Disrepair, Eviction, Possession as well as other matters within Social Housing law.
This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate looking to progress their career within Social Housing.
Key Skills Required:
To succeed in your role as a Social Housing Paralegal/Trainee Solicitor you will:
- Demonstrate passion and experience in a broad range of publicly funded Housing Law
- A strong academic background with a Law degree
- Legal experience as a Housing Paralegal/Advisor
- Clear understanding and application of Housing Laws
- Business acumen and the ability to market the Company
- Excellent communications skills to work effectively with all types of people
- Excellent analytical and organisational skills and ability to use own initiative but know when to seek guidance
- Committed team player, self -motivated and professional
- Excellent IT Skills -familiar with Microsoft Office applications and document management skills
