Legal Advisory Committee Member
About Fish Legal
Fish Legal is not-for-profit membership association that exists to give anglers the legal tools and backing to fight to protect and restore the water environment. With high profile cases from all across the UK, Fish Legal has been using the law effectively to fight for the health of our rivers, lakes and streams since 1948.
Working with a network of 1000+ angling clubs and fishery members throughout the UK, its dedicated in-house environmental lawyers specialise in bringing civil actions against polluters and challenging decisions made by government, local authorities and other public bodies that fail to protect fish.
We are looking for a new member on our Legal Advisory Committee, a voluntary group of lawyers who provide oversight of Fish Legal’s cases throughout the UK.
This is an unpaid role that would suit a practising Solicitor looking to play an active role in protecting and restoring the water environment and fisheries.
Membership of the Legal Advisory Committee involves providing guidance to the Fish Legal’s in-house lawyers on current cases, working within the context of the organisation’s established protocols for case management and assessment of financial risk. Cases are predominantly a mix of civil and public law actions, with some Tribunal cases concerning information rights.
For more information about our current legal actions, visit https://fishlegal.net/news/
Time Commitment
The Legal Advisory Committee usually meets 3 times per year or more frequently at the request of Fish Legal’s lawyers. Most meetings take place using Zoom/Teams, with occasional in-person meetings in London (which can be attended remotely for those unable to attend in person). Papers are distributed in advance to allow time to read and prepare for meetings.
