The Law Society (“the Law Society”) represents solicitors in England & Wales and has over 200,000 members across the world. The Law Society’s role is to represent, promote and support solicitors in England and Wales, and internationally.
The Law Society is governed by its Council which sets the strategic direction of the Law Society’s work. Under the Law Society’s governance structure there is a Council Membership Committee (‘CMC’) charged with overseeing the representational nature of Council, its constituencies and size, and making recommendations for change. It is developing a programme of proposals for continuing reform of Council to enhance engagement with the profession. This is an excellent position from which to understand the working of Council for those considering seeking election to Council in future.
Applications are now sought for non-Council member positions. Applicants must be solicitors.
We particularly welcome applications from ethnic minority lawyers, disabled lawyers, LGBTQ+ lawyers, and those in the earlier stages of their career.
The ideal candidates will show a strong commitment to the values of the Law Society, the interests of its members and of the public and to ensuring equality, diversity, and inclusion in all the activities of the Law Society.
The roles are unremunerated although reasonable expenses will be reimbursed Committee members will serve a term of three years, renewable for up to two further terms.
