This is a great opportunity to work in-house in a friendly and supportive environment where you’ll be providing high quality legal advice and representation on litigation related matters to Southern Housing and its group. This will involve a varied caseload, as well as assisting more junior team members with more straightforward matters.  As an in-house team we also deal with a wide variety of contentious legal queries which you will support the business with.

 

What you’ll be doing

 

Managing a caseload of typical housing management litigation cases such as, but not limited to, disrepair, injunctions, possession, leasehold disputes. Dealing with and providing advice and support on other contentious matters. Complying with the processes and procedures established in the team to ensure the efficient and effective provision of litigation and housing management disputes to Southern Housing in line with our HEART values. Liaising with colleagues at all levels across the organisation and our resident’s legal advisers. Building and maintaining effective working relationships with contacts with all of the team’s stakeholders – colleagues, resident’s solicitors, partners outside the Legal Services team and other third parties. Ensuring confidentiality, sensitivity and a professional approach in all activities. Providing cover for other members of the Litigation team in their absence and guidance/support to more junior team members. You’ll be either a qualified CILEX Lawyer, Solicitor or Barrister with a practicing certificate Litigation and housing management experience (particularly working in social housing or for other public sector bodies) Experience of dealing with litigation matters (including housing management matters) Excellent IT skills in particular Microsoft Office suite and Outlook and able to work within a case management system. Ability to present information in a variety of forms to a high standard, including excellent verbal and written communication skills Excellent legal drafting skills The ambition to provide a fantastic service as part of the Legal Services Team.

Location
You’ll be based at one of our main offices in either Farringdon or Croydon with the option for working in a hybrid way when appropriate and as agreed with your manager. You’ll often have to travel between those two offices.  You may also be required to travel occasionally to our other offices at Isle of Wight, Maidstone or Sittingbourne.

Salary
Our starting salary for lawyers is circa £53,000 for those with 3 years PQE or two years’ experience as a qualified lawyer with Southern Housing, and £42,400 for newly qualified lawyers.
