Property Litigation Solicitor (Partner/Senior Associate level)

Olsen Recruitment
Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk
Closing date

Job Details

Bury St Edmunds (commutable from Norfolk and Suffolk – e.g. Norwich, Cambridge, Ipswich, Newmarket, Woodbridge etc).

Our client, based in Bury St Edmunds, is seeking a commercial litigator (with expertise in property litigation) to head up their property litigation offering.

Currently the team handles property litigation work as it comes in, with two other lawyers (both partners) able to do this work.

However, given the volume of the work coming into the firm, the firm recognises there is scope to develop this practice area in its own right – so require someone with sufficient PQE to handle cases themselves.

The firm’s clients are typically affluent individuals, families and successful local businesses.  This firm is Tier 1 (Legal 500) for Commercial Litigation.  Many of the law firms it sees on the other side of transactions are the larger regional or City firms, which is indicative of the type of work being handled here.

The work you could be involved in includes:

Adverse possession orders, dilapidations and repairs claims and complex nuisance matters.  There is also a steady stream of TOLATA work which comes in the firm; this area can be developed. Billing target: around 5.5 hours per day. (or approx. 1000 a year.)

The managing partner described their ideal hire as ‘someone who is ambitious for themselves and the firm’.  Looking through the firm’s recent hires it is easy to spot that this firm attracts lawyers from well-known large regional and City law firms (meaning it has a good local reputation).

This firm care deeply about the quality of lawyer they hire and want you to join with the aim of carving out a successful role for yourself and becoming a partner. Its ‘success’ stories amongst its previous hires include seven associates joining with the future promise of making partner; all seven have succeeded.

The benefits package the firm offer includes:

- Holiday entitlement of at least 25 days + bank holidays

- Enhanced pension contributions

- Death in service (4 x salary)

- Free car parking (onsite or nearby)

- The firm’s working hours are 8.45 am – 5.30 pm

- The firm’s hybrid working policy is 3 days in the office, 2 at home.

The office is deserted  “by 7 pm most nights”, so there’s no long hours culture here.

The management style was described as ‘laissez-faire’ – meaning you will be left to your own devices to manage your time and day as you see fit.

The firm recognise that the right sort of person for this role would be an ambitious lawyer.  As such the firm have said they will be explicit about earning potential at partner level and the firm’s financial position during any chats.  (We think you will be impressed by these things.)
