Casework assistant
Are you looking for the first step into a career in law? The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is recruiting casework assistants to join our prosecution teams across England and Wales.
About us
At the Crown Prosecution Service, we are responsible for delivering justice through the independent and effective prosecution of crime. As the principal prosecuting authority across England and Wales, the nature and diversity of cases we advise on and prosecute means our work is often emotionally challenging and complex. As such we employ over 7,000 individuals who think objectively, act professionally, show the utmost respect for others and continually strive for excellence.
About the role
Casework assistants provide crucial support at the heart of our organisation. You are based within one of our 14 regional teams or our complex casework area, supporting prosecutors by preparing case files and serving documents prior to hearings in the magistrates’ and Crown Court. As the first point of contact for your unit, you build public confidence in our work by providing excellent customer service in sensitive and often difficult circumstances for victims and witnesses of crime.
You don’t need specific qualifications or experience to apply. We are committed to your professional growth and support you with range of learning and development opportunities to ensure you can thrive in your role. We are looking for people who share our values and commitment to public service. We offer you the opportunity to have a very real impact on society, the freedom to use your judgement and the chance to experience challenging and varied work.
About our benefits
At the CPS we pride ourselves on providing a variety of benefits that ensure our employees’ requirements are central. We want to ensure you can thrive at work and home, offering a range of support to achieve a balance. This includes flexible working hours, flexibility to support caring responsibilities and a family friendly approach to work. We also offer a range of benefits including:
- 25 days leave, rising to 30 days after 5 years’ service, plus bank holidays
- 1 extra privilege day for the King’s birthday
- 3 days paid volunteering leave
- Civil Service pension, with an average employer contribution of 27% competitive salary
- £350 a year individual learning budget
- wellbeing support and counselling
- childcare vouchers, Cycle2work scheme, high street retailer offers and discounts.
