Job Details
Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.
Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.
About the role
This role involves the provision of specialist legal advice and the conduct of complex litigation including the areas of Judicial review, Licensing, Housing, Anti-Social Behaviour, Contact disputes, all types of debt recovery and other miscellaneous litigation. You will also be involved in advising members and providing clients with governance advice. You will be expected to undertake advocacy in the County Courts and Magistrates Courts. You will be working collaboratively with a range of Senior Officers, Partners and Stakeholders in order to achieve the best outcomes for the Council. The role requires you to provide day to day supervision for members of the team and you will have the opportunity to help shape the legal service in Haringey. You will be fully supported by a strong management team.
About the team
This is an exciting time to join a Lexcel accredited in-house legal service, which is delivering an efficient and high-quality legal service to enable the council to deliver its corporate priorities. The Litigation team operates in a very busy, fast-moving environment, working with clients from all departments of the Council. One day you can be working on a case involving a festival in one of our parks and then on another day switch to dealing with governance advice on one of our redevelopment projects.
About you
We are looking for an experienced Lawyer who is dynamic and energetic, with excellent research, written and verbal communication skills, and who can think creatively to resolve complex legal issues involving different areas of law. You will have excellent analytical skills and be able to provide leadership. You must have excellent time management skills and the ability to work under pressure. We are looking for a confident, motivated and resilient candidate with strong communication and influencing skills to be part of our excellent and friendly legal team.
Working for Haringey
