What does a personal injury solicitor do?

A personal injury solicitor is a legal professional who specialises in providing legal representation and advice to clients who have sustained physical or psychological injury due to the negligence or wrongful actions of another party. Personal injury solicitors will represent claimants on an individual basis, or on their behalf through insurers or trade unions if related to their place of work.

Personal injury solicitors handle a wide range of cases where individuals seek compensation for physical, emotional, or financial harm resulting from accidents or incidents, including but not limited to car accidents, slip and fall incidents, medical malpractice, product liability claims, workplace injuries, and wrongful death cases. Their primary goal is to help their clients receive compensation for the harm they've suffered and to ensure that justice is served, where possible.

What skills are required to become a personal injury solicitor?

A personal injury solicitor will be interacting with clients who have experienced traumatic events, or family members of someone who has died due to an injury. A personal injury solicitor will therefore be required to have the empathy and communication skills to understand their client’s individual circumstances. As with all solicitor roles, a personal injury lawyer will need strong organisational skills to efficiently manage case bundles and witness statements. A good personal injury solicitor will also have the research and investigative skills to thoroughly examine the facts and evidence of the case to help maximise the client’s claims.

What is the average salary for a personal injury solicitor?

A newly qualified personal injury solicitor can earn between £30,000 to 45,000 per year depending on the law firm and location. With more years of experience, solicitors can see their salary increase to £70,000 or more. Do note, that the salary of personal injury solicitors will be much higher in major cities such as London or Manchester.
