Specialist Prosecutor – Counter Terrorism

Are you a talented lawyer looking to take the next step in your career? Being a Specialist Prosecutor with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division means that you will be at the forefront of delivering justice.

The Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division is made up of Special Crime, Counter Terrorism and the Appeals and Review Unit and deals with some of the most interesting casework in the CPS. We have specialist teams of high performing prosecutors, paralegals and other staff who work closely with a wide variety of investigators, partners and stakeholders here and abroad.

Prosecutors within the Counter Terrorism Unit (CT) are responsible for reviewing cases and taking prosecution decisions with matters relating to national security and actions of the state - principally terrorism, hijacking, war crimes and crimes against humanity, race hate and Official Secret Act offences. The post holder will advise on and prepare cases for prosecution. They will undertake a personal caseload of complex criminal cases, requiring the marshalling of large quantities of evidence and unused material which needs to be formulated into cogent and manageable prosecution and disclosure strategies, using highly developed legal skills.

You will have opportunities to develop your career further, including using your Individual Learning Account (ILA) to attend training courses and get the chance to shadow colleagues to gain different perspectives. You will be supported in your progression with access to various promotion opportunities.

Delivering justice is complex with work that is sometimes emotionally challenging, which is why we offer a range of benefits including flexible working, civil service pension scheme, access to employee savings schemes and 25 days leave, rising to 30 days after 5 years’ service.

If you are committed to public service and are looking for a role at the very forefront of delivering justice, find out more and apply now.
